Long-Term Care Insurance

Underwriting Process

In your initial consultation the advisor will ask some general health questions to determine your health profile and which carrier will be the best match. The policies being offered through this program are individual insurance contracts which require medical underwriting. Not all health conditions are accepted.

If you are interested in applying for coverage, the next step is completing the application with your advisor, which includes signing off on the release of your medical records. Once the application is submitted, the following steps take place:

  • The carrier conducts a phone health interview or face-to-face assessment with each applicant to obtain health profile and to test for cognitive impairment (based on age).
  • The carrier requests medical records to review health history.
  • There is typically no blood drawn or physical exam if you have had these done within the last 12-24 months. However some carriers require all applicants to complete an in-home mini-physical (height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, urinalysis, blood draw).
